RUDN TUIS

10 Years in the Digital Educational Space

December 17, 2024, marks 10 years since the official launch of the RUDN University Telecommunications Educational and Information System (TEIS) (Order No. 961/Р dated December 16, 2015). Over these years, the platform has become an integral part of the educational process, evolving from a new tool into one of the main channels for learning, communication, and knowledge assessment at the university.

Origins and Key Figures

TEIS was created in response to the challenges of the time: the development of internet technologies, the need for 24/7 learning support, and repeated access to materials, which is especially important for international students. The initiators and driving forces behind the project were:

  • Vladimir Mikhailovich Filippov, then Rector of RUDN University, who provided the strategic impetus for the development of the information environment.

  • Alexander Petrovich Efremov, First Vice-Rector, who authored the system's name.

  • Elena Yuryevna Lotova, Director of the Scientific Library and project leader, whose efforts in market analysis, team building, and organizing faculty training earned her the unofficial title of "mother of TEIS."

The system is based on the popular open-source LMS Moodle platform, chosen for its ease of adaptation and development potential.

Stress Test and Current Performance

The true stress test for TEIS was the COVID-19 pandemic. The system successfully handled a sharp surge in load, ensuring the continuity of the educational process and confirming its reliability. Today, TEIS is the hallmark of digital RUDN, strengthening the university's reputation.

Current Statistics (2024-2025 academic year):

  • 9.6 million visits to the platform from 149 countries.

  • 5.13 million pageviews were performed from smartphones, confirming the system's mobility and accessibility.

  • Peak visitation days are Monday and Tuesday, with maximum activity at noon Moscow time.

Functionality and Support

TEIS is integrated with the RUDN Electronic Library System, providing direct access to educational literature. Among its unique features are tools for monitoring academic integrity and automating content creation.

Specialists from the Information Technology Laboratory of the Scientific Library provide daily technical and methodological support to users, helping them create courses and resolve emerging issues.

RUDN TEIS is an accessible and reliable educational environment that was with us yesterday, helps us today, and is ready to support academic achievements in the future!
